When I saw this come up on the LJ Writer's Block thing, I couldn't help myself, and just had to answer it.

The answer is fairly simple - or maybe not so simple, depending on which book/s I've been reading, and that's quite a few, as of late. At the moment, it mostly involves three vampires - well, only two of them are really vampires; the last one is a fellow who works for vampire-hunters with vampire-like qualities, sort of... Ah, never mind, I'll explain when I get to him.

Just make sure it isn't any of Edward's ilk. I'd sooner stake him, or choose self-immolation. Wait, I forget: Meyer's vampires don't go up in flames if they stand in sunlight. Nor do they keel over if they're staked. Drat.

Moving on...

So, if I wanted to get bitten by a vampire, the top one on my list would definitely have to be Marius de Romanus from Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles. I know, many of Rice's fans would say that the last few books in that series left much to be desired (and that's an understatement, given the venom I've heard from some fans), but I like to think it only really went down the drain with Blackwood Farm onwards. Blood and Gold, so I like to think, was spared the misery and torture that Rice inflicted on the rest of us with Blackwood Farm and Blood Canticle.

Marius, however, wasn't really the first vampire in Rice's Chronicles whom I adored - that honor goes to Lestat. And I have to ask: who doesn't like Lestat, especially the Lestat we knew from The Vampire Lestat all the way to Memnoch the Devil? Those books presented Lestat at his finest and most wonderful, and it's kind of hard to pay any attention to anyone else when Lestat's around - unless Lestat pays attention to them, first. It was only when I read The Vampire Armand that I began to pay more attention to Marius, and after I read the books over, I came to see that I greatly preferred him over Lestat. Not to say I don't like Lestat, of course: it's hard to forget your first love, as the saying goes, and my massive soft spot for him still remains. But Marius has won over a great deal of the affection I used to have for Lestat.

It's a pattern with me, I think: flirting with a bad boy might not be so bad, but at the end of the day, I'll always want someone more stable. Not to say Marius is completely stable, but he's a lot more stable than Lestat, that much I can say, and I rather like that.

So would I like to have Marius take a little drink from on some dark night while I wander, lost, in New Orleans? Hell yeah I would.

The other vampire is a young one - well, by the standards of the universe he inhabits, anyway - named Qhuinn, a (currently) minor character from J.R. Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood series. The vampires here are significantly different from the one's in Rice's world, but they do share the characteristic of being all drop-dead gorgeous. Qhuinn is no different. He's born to a significantly important family in his world, but was rejected from it because he's imperfect. The imperfection: color-blindness, manifested by the fact that he has one green eye and one blue eye. Most people would say it's terribly minor, but if you read Ward's books, you'll come to see that, to her vampires at least, such a thing is as good as being born lame, deaf, and completely blind.

Which is kind of why I like Qhuinn. Might be a bit of a Messiah/Mother complex, can't say for sure. Either way, his hardships with his family have given him a great deal of sensitivity, and for that I really, really like him. Of course, if it weren't for the fact that Ward appears to be writing him as having gay tendencies (at least towards his friend Blaylock), there would be minimal reservations. As it stands, though, I may have to back off a wee bit.

But would I like to be bitten by him? Oh yeah I would, definitely. And in this instance, I wouldn't mind if he shared me with Blaylock, either. I'd like to be the filling in that sandwich.

The last guy isn't really a vampire. He's one-hundred percent human - but he works for vampire-slayers who possess a few vampire characteristics, such as fangs and intolerance of sunlight. Blame it on Artemis: she's the one who contracted them to work for her and gave them those characteristics.

Yeah, I'm talking about Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark-Hunter series, and the fellow I'm talking about is the Squire, Otto Carvaletti. Squires are essentially human beings who help the Dark-Hunters fight against the Daimons (vampires who aren't really vampires - just look them up or read a few of the Dark-Hunter books; you'll get the idea after a while). Their services are wide and varied, ranging from personally taking care of the Dark-Hunters as personal assistants/aides (as is the case of Barnacle/Barnacle Chip/Echo Squires) to hunting down rogue Dark-Hunters (Blood Rite Squires). For every Dark-Hunter there is said to be at least a hundred Squires in the world, and not all of them serve the Dark-Hunters directly. Either way, their chief purpose is to help the Dark-Hunters protect the world from the menace of the Daimons, or whatever other supernatural threats come swirling through.

Now back to Otto. Otto is half-Italian Mafia, and half-Blue Blood Squire. Blue Bloods are Squires who come from a family with several generations of Squires in them, and the Carvalettis are just one such family. As a result, Otto has been born, bred, and raised to the life of a Squire, and he takes his role very, very seriously. He is, arguably, just as handsome as the Dark-Hunters he protects, with a razor-sharp wit to match. He doesn't tolerate fools, and would gladly leave them to die a miserable death - if he doesn't kill them himself, first.

And there's the reason why I like Otto: he's really, really smart. Cold, maybe, but smart. And I am always drawn to smart. Marius was smart, and Qhuinn can make really good quips on his own, too. Otto's no different. And there's something about the fact that I like a man who's cold on the outside but burns hot, hot, hot on the inside.

So would I let Otto bite me on a dark night? Oh yeah, sure, I wouldn't mind that taking a nibble out of me - as long as he meant it in a passionate/romantic sense, not in the I-will-rip-your-throat-out sense.

You and I, we're all familiar with gorgeous bloodsuckers, aren't we? And oh, Armand! I remember reading The Vampire Armand and wishing I was Bianca, caught between him and Marius!

When she started pairing Lestat and Louis up with anyone else but each other?

And yes, that scene in Bianca's bedroom. I swear, the mere memory of it makes me cross my legs, it's so hot.

Personally, I blame Merrick.

Oh shit, I don't dare put Blood and Gold and The Vampire Armand on the same shelf lest they COMBUST. Or molest my other books.

Merrick was tolerable. I like her with David. But Mona and her guardian need to be shot dead.

If I put Blood and Gold and The Vampire Armand next to me tonight, will they molest me?

That he is. Sookie might not appeal to me, but Eric? Mmm... I wouldn't mind that taking a bite out of me, no sir.

Oh Marius. Indeed I can see why you would choose him! I'd have to say, for me, it might almost be Armand from the same series, I really honed in on him while reading and just loved every sensual quality about him.

Other than that? Dracula. But...I see Oldman's Dracula, for sure.

Oh, I understand how you feel about Armand. You remember the scene in The Vampire Armand, when both Armand and Marius have a go at Bianca Solderini? I cannot begin to tell you how much I envied a woman as I did in that moment.

And I understand why Oldman's Dracula does it for you. Reading the book, I always imagined Dracula as being exceedingly charming, if not overly handsome, and Oldman fits the bill perfectly. Plus, his looks fit the bill: as Dracula, he looks remarkably Romanian.

Ahahaha, speaking of vampires: I've watched the first season of True Blood. Interesting stuff - nothing critically amazing, but a good, fun watch.

Oh, and this is off-topic, but: what is the title of that amazing book of yours? The one on Japanese monsters and stuff.

True Blood is a fun show, but I've never really gotten into it. I don't know; somehow it hasn't managed to really hold me. Their accents are rather fun, though, I'll give the show that much.

The book is Yokai Attack!: The Japanese Monster Survival Guide by Hiroko Yoda and Matt Alt, illustrated by Tatsuya Morino. I managed to spot a copy in FullyBooked Greenbelt 5, but you could always ask other FullyBooked branches if they have a copy.

I don't like True Blood much. I guess I should've watched it before I read the series. D:

Tbh, I think I'm mostly pinged by it purely on a level of craft, since it's rather well put together? In terms of me actually liking it for what it is, though, idk. XD

Oho~ if it's available locally, I suppose I shall have to see if I can get it here!
